Research Projects

We are living in extraordinary times where knowledge and technology advance rapidly. Advancement is achieved largely through the research efforts of scientists working tirelessly around the world. Still, it is important to remember that science is a never ending process and in the words of Albert Einstein:

One thing I have learned in a long life: that all our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike and yet it is the most precious thing we have.

In response to this need for advancing science through research CCC Biomedical Laboratory is joining the research efforts of scientists in Cyprus through autonomous research and as collaborators with scientists at the University of Cyprus, the University of Nicosia as well as medical doctors. Below is a summary of research projects CCC Biomedical laboratory was/is involved in:

Homocysteine levels in high risk and apparently healthy individuals: The Cyprus Experience

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The overall objective of this project was:

1. Determination of clinical usefulness of Homocysteine levels as a biological marker for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

Blood samples from apparently healthy individuals and CVD patients in Cyprus were collected and the Homocysteine levels were measured using the IMx homocysteine assay. The results of the current study suggest that there exists a clinical correlation of CVD with high Homocysteine levels.
